アトリエシムラの染めの教室を9月16日に開催しました。染師志村宏先生の教室は、まるで魔法の授業を受けているようでした。
ルヴァンの庭で剪定したバラとイチイの枝を煮だして染料をつくり、スカーフまたは絹糸を染めました。植物に閉じ込められていた色たちが白い絹（動物性）にしみこんでいくのですが、太陽や風にあてることで色はさらに変わり、銅・鉄・アルミ成分の媒染剤（鉱物）に染まった絹を入れると化学反応によって色はみるみるうちに変わっていきます。自然の力と美しさの変化を楽しむ魔法の授業でした。
We held a dye workshop on September 16th. The class led by Mr. Hiro Shimura was like a class of magic.
We made dye from boiling the branches of roses and Japanese Yew cut from the museum garden, and dyed silk scarfs or thread. By boiling them, the colours which were contained in the plants were extracted into the water, and they soak into the silk. When the silk is spread out under the sun and let the breeze go through, the colour change, and still when the silk is put through mordant (Fe, Cu, Al) the chemical reaction changes the colour in front of your eyes. A fabulous magical class of experiencing the power and beauty of nature.
